In the activist space I'm consistently seeing Nextcloud lose out to Cryptpad and the likes of HedgeDoc where collaborative document editing is of primary importance to the group. Nextcloud, excellent in so many ways, has the dependency of a separate document server for Collabora if it is to come close to other alt document editors whose code runs client-side. Nextcloud's own 'Office' solution looks great but is not meeting the needs of groups collaborating around a document, even at small scales
@JulianOliver Maybe that’s also because it is super easy in Cryptpad to create a new document and share the link with anyone that wishes to collaborate
BTW Cryptpad now uses OnlyOffice for documents too. Haven’t hit any user limits there yet, but that’s because I only collaborate in small groups.
@xot Cryptpad/Xwiki forked OO for their purposes, so no user limit.
It's very easy to share read/write docs with Nextcloud also. But the collab editing experience is where it falls over compared to a client-side editor like OO.
@JulianOliver Great. Good to know, thanks!
